Emergency call-out to deal with multiple tree failure

Bromley, Kent

In January 2014, we received a call from a Bromley resident who sadly lost two mature Poplar trees which failed during strong overnight winds, these very large trees were now resting on sheds and fences across four gardens. The resident had contacted a few companies that morning, and despite all attending to assess the work, each company felt that the scale of the task was in excess of their capabilities.

Armed with this information, two of our estimators attended the address that afternoon and begun devising a method statement to deal with the dismantling and extraction of the trees.

From the out-set, our approach was to devise a method that would cause minimal disruption to the resident and his neighbours by executing the task promptly without causing further damage. To this end we appointed the services of a local crane company who we arranged to meet at the address that evening with a view to commencing work the next day.

Without hesitation, we were able to attend site the next morning with a core crew of four operatives plus a 40 ton City Crane and two operatives from the crane company. This was done with minimal disruption to our planned works diary and we set to the task of extracting the two trees.

With the entire job successful completed within two days, we received the following feedback from the client via the independent Check-A-Trade scheme of which we are members:

“...absolutely outstanding and a very reasonable price. The team were incredibly professional, qualified, intelligent and polite. I could not fault the workmanship. This was an especially difficult project which other tree companies shied away from, or quoted ludicrous prices. It involved using a 40 tonne crane and lifting huge root balls over neighbouring gardens. The team worked non-stop for two days in very difficult conditions but never wavered from the task. The site was left in excellent condition...”
