Nature-based solutions, Carbon Capture and Nutrient Neutrality
KWT Consultancy Services supports your work in enhancing natural resources to deliver biodiversity net gain, carbon storage and nutrient neutrality. The UK government has set ambitious goals to protect and restore the natural environment within a generation. Through the provision of biodiversity net gain, KWT Consultancy Services provide the essential ecological expertise, landscape and landscape scale design to ensure development and land management can achieve its commitments and much more, to enhance natural habitats to lock up as much carbon as possible and defend sensitive areas from seepage of nitrate.
In support of these goals, the government has committed to new laws that will make it mandatory for developments to deliver an overall increase in biodiversity, biodiversity net gain, so that biodiversity is in better condition after a development is completed. We will work with clients to design in natural and cost effective solutions to enhance appropriate habitat, to offset and store carbon emissions and support a carbon net zero approach that enhances and protects the future of Kent’s woodland, wetland, water bodies, species rich grassland and heathland.
We welcome this new policy, but also recognise the risk that this might not be realised. We support developers and ecologists to deliver what is being required by law, and to ensure that new habitat is being created in areas where it can make the biggest difference for wildlife. Kent Wildlife Trust and KWT Consultancy Services are working together to ensure this opportunity is not missed:
By offering advice, ecological and land management expertise and design at the concept stage
Supporting the biodiversity net gain metric build and BNG feasibility assessment
By offering on site and off site solutions
By providing and managing a long term off site nature based solution where relevant
By ensuring biodiversity net gain investment will be properly targeted to return a real gain for nature and support a Nature Recovery Network in Kent
By putting income from biodiversity net gain back into conservation work in Kent
