Vogt Geo-injection - Jersey

Trinity Manor is regarded as one of Jerseys most important buildings. Located on the front lawn is one of the most impressive Lucombe Oak trees in existence.

Down To Earth were awarded a contract to carry out soil amelioration and soil de-compaction to the upper terrace lawn which was suffering from years of heavy compaction, and causing the tree to become sparse within the upper canopy.

Prior to carrying out the geo-injecting, we conducted a non-invasive chlorophyl fluorescence efficiency test in order to ascertain the level of stress the tree was dealing with. These baseline figures allow us to measure the effectiveness of the soil amelioration when we next visit the site.

Due to years of ongoing grounds maintenance, heavy mowers had slowly compacted the rooting environment around this tree to such a degree that the underlying turf was extremely waterlogged despite previous attempts at conventional aeration.

Over the course of three days, a total of 700m2 of rooting zone was effectively decompacted with circa 150kg of Biochar incorporated into the soil at varying depths from surface level to 1 meter deep. All pre-existing surface puddles disappeared.
