Farnborough Park is one of the few places in Bromley where the trees came before the houses. The estate was laid out in the 1920s around an existing parkland setting, and the specimen limes, oaks, cedars and beeches lining its ten private roads are the reason the whole area holds conservation area status. We have worked on trees across BR6 for more than four decades, and we understand that advice here has to satisfy two separate approvals rather than one.

Most tree consultants treat Farnborough Park like any other Bromley address. It is not. Any work to a tree on the estate needs written consent from the board of Farnborough Park Estates Limited as well as the London Borough of Bromley, and contractors are turned away at the gates without it. Bromley requires six weeks' notice for work to conservation area trees, and where felling is approved the estate expects a replacement specimen of substantial size to be planted at the owner's cost.
We prepare reports that speak to both audiences. Our recommendations are written in line with BS 3998:2010 so the council can assess them quickly, and they carry the detail the estate Tree Officer needs to see before granting access. Getting this right at the report stage saves months.

Many of the estate's trees are now approaching or past a century in age, and a visual inspection alone rarely settles the question of whether a large tree is safe to keep. We use PiCUS sonic tomography, electrical resistance tomography and PD400 Resistograph testing to measure internal decay and remaining sound wood without harming the tree. Our Arborcheck chlorophyll fluorescence system detects stress long before symptoms show in the canopy.
This matters because the evidence usually supports retention. A tree with visible decay is frequently sound enough to keep, and a reduction to lower the wind sail is often all that is needed.
