If you are a landowner you may be aware of the BS5837 standard. If you are not, then keep reading.
The BS5837 is designed to facilitate compliance with the government’s “Trees in Relation to Construction” regulations. Said regulations apply to both residential and commercial property owners regarding trees on property where development is planned, whether the property has been previously developed or not. Before new development can begin you will need to have a qualified Arborist fill out the BS5837 and then submit it as part of your development plan. If you need a BS5837 in Enfield the experts at DTE Trees are the ones to call.
The BS5837: What it Contains
If this is your first time having to submit a BS5837 it may be helpful to know more about it. There are 3 parts of the typical BS5837:
Part 1: The tree survey plan
The tree survey must be conducted by a trained and certified Arborist. It indicates the exact location and size of every tree on the property to be developed.
Part 2: The schedule
The schedule on a BS5837 is where the following information is recorded:
Each tree’s unique reference number
Whether a Tree Protection Order (TPO) has been applied to the property
Whether the property is in a Conservation Area
The height of each tree
Diameter of the trunk at 1.5 metres from the ground
Length of branches radiating from the trunk
Age classification - young, semi-mature, mature, over-mature, veteran
Current condition
Management recommendations
Estimated useful life remaining
Assessment of the tree’s overall health and quality
Part 3: The tree constraints plan
The constraints plan gets into detail regarding:
The crown spread on each tree
Estimated root spread
The shade footprint
Overall quality of the tree
